Guided by Quw'utsun ways
Four connected areas of support
Stsi’elh stuhw tu Smun’eemHonouring Our Sacred Children and Families is organized around four interwoven program areas: Practice, Prevention, Operations, and Quality Assurance. Each area plays a distinct role in how we support Qw’ustun smun’eem, youth, families, and community to be safe, strong, and rooted in culture.
The Practice team supports Qw’ustun smun’eem, youth and families through culturally grounded services. We root our work in Qw’ustun teachings, legal frameworks, family strengths and a trauma-informed perspective that recognizes the impacts of colonial policies on traditional child-rearing. By restoring and honouring our Qw’ustun Ways, we help build safety, belonging and a strong sense of identity for smun’eemChildren, youth, and families.
The Prevention team focuses on wellness before there is a crisis. We offer cultural camps, community events, youth programs and family supports that build cultural pride and identity. The team also offers prenatal support and mental health services, recognizing the importance of holistic care from the earliest stages of life. Together, these efforts build a healthier, more connected community.
The Operations team keeps our programs running smoothly behind the scenes. We look after buildings, supplies, budgets, travel, and technology so services can be delivered safely and reliably, and we support policy, forms, and communication so staff have what they need to stay organized. By tending to these foundations, Operations helps ensure community members experience consistent, dependable support.
The Quality Assurance team helps ensure smun’eemChildren and families receive safe, respectful, high-quality service. We listen to feedback, review practice and check that our work follows our laws, policies and teachings. We work with staff to address issues early and strengthen services to keep our supports strong, consistent and centred on the well-being of smun’eemChildren, youth, families, and community.
