Questions from community

We know community members have important questions as we move forward together. Here are answers to a few we hear most often.

Stsi’elh Stuhw tu Smun’eemHonouring Our Sacred Children and Families builds on the important work and relationships of Lalum’utul’ Smun’eem. But we are now guided by our own Cowichan Law, Snuw’uy’ulhtst tu Quw’utsun Mustimuhw u’ tu Shhw’a’luqwa’ i’ Smun’eem, passed by Quw’utsunCowichan people and supported by Chief and Council. This means our programs, decisions, and care are all grounded in Quw’utsunCowichan teachings and accountability to our Nation.

Stsi’elh Stuhw tu Smun’eemHonouring Our Sacred Children and Families means Honouring Our Sacred Children and Families. It reminds us that every child is sacred and that our families and communities share a sacred responsibility to raise them in love, belonging and strength.

We are governed by our own Cowichan Law, not by provincial legislation. This means decisions are made in community, guided by Elders and rooted in Quw’utsunCowichan values. Our focus is on prevention, healing and cultural connection so children grow up surrounded by family and community, not separated from them.

Yes. We serve all Quw’utsunCowichan children, youth and families on reserve and away from home. Whether you’re nearby or living elsewhere on Vancouver Island, our goal is to help every family stay connected to our culture, community and care.

Community voice guides everything we do. You can share your thoughts, attend community gatherings or connect with our team any time through our office or events. We welcome your ideas, stories and feedback as they help us grow in the right way.

We are committed to handling all concerns with care and confidentiality. You can contact us directly through our Contact page or speak with any staff member you trust. Every concern is taken seriously and handled in a way that reflects our values of respect, accountability, and healing.
